Clyde E. “Cheetah”

Age 83;  of Presto, formerly of Bethel Park; peacefully passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2017; proud son of Reverend Olof and Ethel (Dolquest) Lundgren; beloved husband of 52 years to Bonnie C. (Bainor) Lundgren; loving father of Kristin (Jeffrey) Rector, Britt (Chris) Bryant, Kurt (Lisa) Lundgren and Clyde (Carolyn) Lundgren; cherished grandfather of Lydia and Alexander Bryant, Trystan and Andrew Lundgren, Gillian, Garrett and Gibson Lundgren; brother of Ruth Dragelin, the late Elmo, Luther, Dorothy Hodgson, Lois Casperson, Marcia Englebrecht and Thelma. Born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania on June 4, 1933, his father’s work with the Augustana Synod provided many fond memories of living in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Illinois and Pennsylvania to name a few. He received a BA of Business Administration from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois in 1957. Clyde was passionate about sports and an avid athlete his whole life. He earned numerous varsity and All-America honors in football, basketball, baseball earning his nickname “Cheetah.”

Following his graduation he went to work for U.S. Steel Corporation in Gary, Indiana and was subsequently drafted for service in the Army. He was honorably discharged in 1959 and returned to U.S. Steel. He met Bonnie, on St. Patrick’s Day and they were married six months later on August 15, 1964. His 29 year career with U.S. Steel included 13 years in South America (Venezuela, Bolivia, Brazil), where he discovered his love of speaking Portuguese and Spanish. Upon his return to the United States he worked 7 years in West Virginia, and eventually returned to Pennsylvania in 1985. After retiring from U.S. Steel, he served as CFO for a small West Virginia manufacturing company and as Finance Manager for Ruthfred Lutheran Church in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania until a second retirement in 2012. Clyde demonstrated his faith and love for music by singing in the choir and serving as a deacon for many years.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, May 4th from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Paul L. Henney Memorial Chapel, 5570 Library Road, Bethel Park, Pennsylvania 15102.  Funeral services will be held Friday, May 5th at 11:30 AM at Ruthfred Lutheran Church.  Burial will follow at National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory can be made to Ruthfred Lutheran Church Music Fund, 3401 South Park Road, Bethel Park, Pennsylvania 15102.
