Irene Virginia (Layfield) Linch
Age 97, of Bethel Park, PA died on March 23, 2015, after a long and contented life and a slow battle with congestive heart failure. She was born October 24, 1917 in Harrison County, WV, the oldest of ten children of Bernard and Effie (Radcliff) Layfield, three of whom survive: Harold Layfield of FL, and Jean Vargo and Ken Layfield of OH. She met and married Lester Linch in 1940 and was widowed too soon in 1970. Together they raised five children; two sons, Gary (Jayne) of Olmstead Falls, OH and Stephen (Lessie) of Decatur, GA and three daughters, Marilyn (Robert) Frew of Palm Bay, FL, and Anita (Fenwick) Hall and Kathy Linch, both of Bethel Park, PA. One granddaughter predeceased her. She is survived by ten adult grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, all of whom admire the strong, capable woman who was “Gramma Linch.” Friends will be received on Friday, March 27 from 6-8 pm at Paul L. Henney Memorial Chapel, 5570 Library Rd. Bethel Park, PA 15102 and from 10 am until the time of service on Saturday at the South Hills Church of the Nazarene. Her Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 28 at South Hills Church of the Nazarene, 5601 Library Road, Bethel Park, PA 15102, followed by a Fellowship luncheon at the church. Burial will be held on Monday, March 30 at 2 pm, next to her husband, in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Quiet Dell, WV. In lieu of flowers a contribution may be made to South Hills Church of the Nazarene or Family Hospice and Palliative Care, 50 Moffett St, Pittsburgh, PA 15243.
