Welcome to the memorial page for

Marie Rose Schaad

April 21, 1918 ~ June 22, 2016 (age 98) 98 Years Old

Marie Rose Schaad returned to God’s Kingdom on the morning of June 22, 2016.   Her 98 years overflowed with love and service to family, church and community, and ultimately guided her journey through a rich life fulfilling her devotion to Jesus Christ.

Marie was born to Louis and Rose Schoepflin, a builder and homemaker respectively, on April 21, 1918 in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Brookline.   She dedicated much of her life to St. Valentine’s Catholic Church in Bethel Park, serving as president of the Christian Mothers, and church organist for nearly a half century.   Marie also worked tirelessly to raise funds to build St. Valentine School in 1953.

Marie married William Gerard Schaad, on May 25, 1944, at St. Valentine’s in Bethel Park.  She and William raised four children in a home tempered with humility and love until William’s death in 1975.  Marie continued her service to God and family on her own, working both at St. Valentine’s and as a secretary at Development Dimensions in Castle Shannon until she retired in 1988.

A clear sense of responsibility ruled Marie’s life.   She accepted them with love and a humble spirit of putting others first.  Marie instilled a strong quality of integrity in her children, which was perhaps her greatest gift to them.

Marie is survived by her daughters Rosanne (Ralph) Baker, Sr. Bernadette Schaad OSF, her son Joseph (Judy) Schaad and their son Stephen – all of Pittsburgh; and her son Thomas (Crystal) Schaad of Norfolk, Virginia.

The visitation for Marie Schaad will be held on Friday June 24 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Henney’s Memorial Chapel, 5570 Library Rd., Bethel Park. The funeral liturgy will be held at St. Valentine’s Church, 2710 Ohio St., Bethel Park on Saturday June 25 at

10 a.m. followed by interment at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 2900 Washington Rd., Canonsburg.
