Donald Maits

Age 95, passed away on May 20, 2018 in Indiana, PA, near the homes of two of his three nephews.  Don was born December 30, 1922 near Library, PA and was a long time resident of Bethel Park.  He was a member of Peter’s Creek Baptist Church.  Don was a graduate of Bethel High School, Worchester Polytechnic Institute in Worchester, Massachusetts and Carnegie Tech (Carnegie Mellon University).  He was both a certified mechanical and electrical engineer.  Don enlisted in the US Navy in 1942.  He served in the Pacific Theater of operations until the war ended.  After returning from active duty, Don found a home with U.S. Steel where he worked for 54 years as an engineer.  At one point he was the superintendent of the roll mill at Duquesne Works, and then became a traveling consultant for the engineering division of U.S. Steel, specializing in roll mills and working all over the world.  He was well into his seventies when he retired.  Never having married, Don’s closest family was his three nephews, Glenn L. (Kyle) and Allan N. (Dorothy) Campbell of Indiana, PA and Donald B. (Gayle) Campbell of West Chester, PA.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph P. and Nellie M. Campbell, and his brother and his brother’s wife, Ralph R. and Grace L. Campbell.  Viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 23 from 2-7 pm at Paul Henney Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 5570 Library Rd, Bethel Park, PA, immediately followed by a short memorial service given by Don’s nephew, the Rev. Dr. Allan N. Campbell.  Per Don’s wishes, his remains are to be cremated and his ashes buried in the plot with his parents in Bethel Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Peter’s Creek Baptist Church, 6300 Library Rd. South Park, PA 15129.
