Alice Wargo Obituary

Alice Wargo, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024. Alice’s warmth, kindness, and generous spirit touched the lives of all who knew her.

Alice was born to Stanley and Florence Metcalfe and was raised in Pleasant Hills, PA, along with her brother Robert. She met her beloved husband, Arthur Wargo, in the Pleasant Hills Presbyterian Church Choir, and they married in 1960. Together, they sang for many years in their church choirs, as long as their health allowed. Known for her unwavering dedication to her loved ones, Alice shared many wonderful years with Arthur, who preceded her in death in 2022. Their lives together were filled with beautiful melodies and harmonies which continues to be reflected in their family, all of whom share a passion for music.

Alice and Arthur had three children: Julie Wolber (Lee), David (Michal), and Matthew (Tammy). They were blessed with seven grandchildren: Andrew Wolber (Marqita), Aaron Wolber, Alex Giddings (Haley), Kendal Wargo, Ben Baker (Ashley), Caulen Wargo (Marina), and Katy Sipes (Jeromy). They also had three great-grandchildren: Henry and Charlotte Giddings, and Koa Wolber. Alice was a devoted mother and grandmother who took immense joy in watching her family grow.  In addition to raising their children, Alice worked as a dental hygienist, in child care, and as a nanny. Becoming a great grandmother was one of her most joyous experiences in these past several years.

Throughout her life, she greeted friends, family, and others with an endearing, heartfelt, "Yoo Hoo!"—a signature expression that will forever be remembered.  Often that was followed up with, “Now doll, tell me what’s new?”  The great thing about that was it was genuine, and those who heard those words felt like the most important subject in her world at that time. This gift of hospitality was generously given to all who passed her way in life.

One of the most indelible examples of Alice’s enduring legacy is how the precious caregivers at Concordia at Villa St. Joseph’s Personal Care Home came to tell her how much they loved her and to share with the family how her “Yoo Hoo” greeting and interest in their lives made her their favorite resident these past two and a half years.

Alice always said, “Bloom where you’re planted.”  Boy, did she do that.  As family and friends, we will miss that about her. Having moved on to be with her Lord, her presence here with us will fondly be remembered.

A memorial service to celebrate the lives of both Alice and Arthur will be held on Sunday, September 8th, at 2 PM, at John McMillan Presbyterian Church, Bethel Park, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to John McMillan Presbyterian Church, which never left either of their hearts as, “their church”, as it was foundational in the strength of their family and their faith.

May the road rise to meet you, Alice. Your light, and your joyful, "Yoo Hoo!", will forever shine in our hearts.
