Daryl M. (Bates) Stawartz

Daryl M. Bates Stawartz, 80, of Jefferson Hills, previously of Baldwin, passed away on August 20, 2026, surrounded by family.

She was born August 21, 1945, a daughter of the late Earl Martin Bates and Alma White Bates.

Daryl was an incredibly bright individual who valued education above all else. She was a member of MENSA and nurtured the pursuit of knowledge in younger generations by becoming a teacher at Baldwin-Whitehall school district. Her hard work and dedication earned her recognition in “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers” and a special designation through the University of Pittsburgh as a “High IQ Gifted Specialist.”

Her caring nature showed through her love of animals and the volunteer work she did for various charities. Daryl was a big supporter of the Mario Lemieux Foundation, Echo Dogs White Shepard Rescue and Animal Friends.

On September 26, 1970, she married the love of her life, Tom Stawartz, who survives. Together they enjoyed 56 years of traveling and wonderful memories.

Also surviving is a sister, Marsha (Peter) Krakoff; two brothers, John (the late Patricia) Matthew Bates and Earl “Izzy” Fancis Bates; two nieces, Justine (Shea) Ehntholt and Tess Krakoff; two nephews, Earl (Jenna) Matthew Bates and Joseph Barnabi; and her beloved dog, Olaf.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Paul Henney Cremation and Funeral Tributes, 5570 Library Rd. Bethel Park 15102, from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 1 Grove Pl. Pittsburgh 15236. Attendees should meet at church before mass begins.
