Ed Connor, 82, of Bethel Park, passed away on August 22 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was at home, surrounded by his loving family. Ed came into this world on January 14, 1942, in Johnstown, born to Edward and Margaret (Connelly) Connor, who preceded him in death. He was proud of his roots, often referring to himself as a “good ol’ coal mining boy.”
Ed met Marjorie (Chris) Christensen in France while serving our country together in the U.S. Army. They married and enjoyed a beautiful life, celebrating 58 loving years together.
Ed was a devoted father to Dayle (Bill) Ferguson, Daniel Connor, and Dottie (Ryan) Caldwell. He cherished his role as “Poppy” to Cole, Cory, and Caden Ferguson, Jake and Derek Caldwell, and his late granddaughter Christen Connor. Ed was also predeceased by his sisters Betty Cunningham and Colleen Hoover, and his niece Arlene Giesey.
After his military service, Ed worked with technology for the CIA for several years. In 1974, he left his various government positions and joined the Bessemer and Lake Erie Railroad in Pittsburgh, where he worked until his retirement in 2001.
Ed was a man of strong faith and unwavering principles, always striving to do the right thing. He found joy in life's simple pleasures - a well-kept yard, a cold Diet Coke in hand, and relaxing moments on his back porch. He valued honesty, hard work, and sincerity, and loved his God, his country, and his family with all his heart. He demonstrated his grit and determination up to his last peaceful breath.
Ed was a familiar face in the bleachers, cheering for his kids and grandkids at their events (sometimes too loudly!) While he rooted for the Steelers, his heart truly belonged to his beloved Buccos.
He was known for his love of dogs, always ready with a treat for any four-legged friend passing by his garage-based "doggie drive-thru." Ed might not remember your name, but he never forgot your dog's.
As the unofficial "Mayor" of his street, where he lived for 50 years, Ed was quick to share his wisdom, affectionately known as "Connor-isms." He also enjoyed outings to the Meadows to play the ponies and lunches with good friends.
Ed will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His warmth, humor, and love for life's simple pleasures will long be remembered.
