Father Raymond A. Gualtieri

Age 91, of Bethel Park passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2020.  Son of the late Joseph and Rose Gualtieri (Scalise); he was preceded in death by his siblings, Eugene & Patrick Gualtieri.  He is survived by his caregivers and friends, Barbara Neumeyer Arnone, Sandra Jabo and Frances Mancine as well as everyone he has impacted throughout his life.  The son of a landscaper and seamstress, Father Ray was raised in the Bloomfield and East Liberty sections of Pittsburgh.  He was the oldest of 3 and knew at an early age that he wanted to “share the joy of Christ with people in all their needs”.  After honorably serving in the Army in Japan and Korea, he returned and pursued studies for the priesthood, entering Mount Alvernia Seminary in Lowell, MA in 1956.  After 8 years of study, he was ordained on June 3, 1964.  Father Ray served parishes in New York City, Pittsburgh and the Diocese of St. Petersburg, FL.  His local assignments included Immaculate Conception, Resurrection Parish, Saint Canice, St. Valentine Parish, Our Lady of Grace Parish and St. Joan of Arc.  He retired from his last parish, St. Joan of Arc in 2014 but never lost his desire to serve.  He enjoyed roller skating, ice skating, downhill skiing, people, telling jokes and laughter.  He described himself as a “preachin’, teachin’, visitin’ kind of priest”.  His attitude and demeanor was contagious and where there was laughter and joy, Father Ray wasn’t far behind.  A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday at 10 am.   Private burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity or church of your choice.
