Gary Thomas Biro (Bi, Captain)
February 27th 1953 – November 21st 2023
Of Mount Lebanon, PA passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 21, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband to Leslie Janine Biro (Jan) of 46 years, loving father to Erin (Chris Goldthorpe) and Stewart (Melissa Stretavski). Cherished Grandfather to James, Mary, and Colton. He is survived by his siblings Douglas Biro, Cynthia Biro (Greg Broe), Judith Suarez (José Suarez) and Gregg Biro, plus many extended family members.
Gary grew up in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania (Class of ‘71), where he excelled in athletics receiving accolades in both football and baseball. He received interest from multiple universities offering scholarships, eventually committing to the University of Miami to play baseball.
As fate would have it, after school and upon returning to Bethel Park, Gary decided to look-up a sweet, fun and career-oriented young lady that he remembered from High School. Her name was Jan and the rest was history.
As a father, he was heavily involved with his children, academically and athletically. He took an active role in coaching both Erin and Stewart. He coached several years for Erin’s softball teams, as well as Stewart’s baseball and football teams. He also coached for Mount Lebanon Freshman, JV and Varsity boys baseball in the 1990’s.
Gary worked for years at the Port Authority and he retired from a position he loved in the fall of 2021. In retirement, Gary enjoyed working on home projects, gardening and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was always up for a good time with family and friends. There was never a dull moment when Gary was around. He was strong-willed and was never afraid to voice his opinion or guide his loved ones with stories and advice. He was very good at working with his hands and always seemed to be able to fix anything. “If you want something done right, you’ve got to do it yourself.” He cherished his family, who cherished him right back. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
Family and friends will gather at Paul Henney Cremation & Funeral Tributes Inc, 5570 Library Rd, Bethel Park, on Saturday, December 9th, from 1-3 pm and 5-7 pm. A Blessing Service will be held immediately following at 7:00 pm, followed by a celebration of life in honor of Gary.
In Lieu of floral arrangements, Jan will be collecting seeds, bulbs or shrubs that will be planted in Jan and Gary's gardens for all to enjoy to honor her husband.
Additionally, donations can be made to the St. Clair Hospital Patient Assistant Fund or the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center Research Fund in Gary’s name.
