He was the son of the late George and Sunday Kovell, the beloved husband of Donna (Carroll) Kovell, and the loving father of Jessica Kovell, Lara Kovell (Stephen Juraschek), Abigail Cheberenchick (Ryan), and Deanna Kovell (Noah Holland). Jerry was the cherished Papa of Sam, Addy, Ellie, and Jon Juraschek and Emma and Benny Cheberenchick, the brother of Robert Kovell (Nancy), Judy Kovell (David Eachus), David Kovell (Cecilia), and brother-in-law of Roxanne Gmutza, Dana Velosky, and Sandy Carroll, uncle to many nieces and nephews, and good friend to Alan McCay. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brother, George “Buck” Kovell and his wife Helga, his brothers-in-law Walter Velosky, Paul “Hobie” Carroll and Albert “Futta” Gmutza.

Jerry was a 1970 graduate of Brownsville High School and in 1974 received his B.S in Biochemistry from Penn State University. After working at U.S. Steel and UPMC, he retired from Kaiser Permanente to enjoy precious time with his family. Jerry enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and being in the outdoors to jog, bike, and fish. He will be remembered for making his special weekend breakfasts, baking apple pies and biscotti to show his love, being his grandkids’ favorite person, and picking up trash wherever he was to make the world a cleaner and better place.
