Gladys E. Wilkes, 102, passed peacefully away after a long and wonderful life, Wednesday February 17, 2021 at The Inn at Poland Way.

Gladys was born November 16, 1918 in Chicago, the daughter of Knut and Axelina Mehl.

Gladys grew up in Chicago with six siblings and graduated from Ravenswood Hospital School of Nursing in 1942.  That same year she met the late James W. “Wally” Wilkes on Valentine’s Day.  They were married on September 8, 1944.  Gladys and Wally celebrated 69 years of marriage in 2013.

Gladys was a practicing nurse until 1975.  She was a member of the Eastern Star and a long-time member and active participant at Hamilton Presbyterian Church in Bethel Park, PA.

Gladys was also predeceased by her son James W. Wilkes, Jr. (Nancy) of Topsham, ME.  Surviving are sons Thomas Wilkes (Derrell) of Boardman, OH and Gerald Wilkes (Beryl) of North Garden, VA, five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Boardman, OH 44512.

Interment will be in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray, PA.
