Joan (Kurkowski) Buchewicz

A proud mother and  resident of South Park Township for 54 years; passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, March 3, 2026; born in Lawrenceville, daughter of the late Edward and Sophie Kurkowski; beloved wife of 65 years to David J. Buchewicz; loving mother of David (Christa) Buchewicz, Jr and Scott (Nancy) Buchewicz; grandmother of Olivia, Claudia, Ethan, Samantha, and William; sister of the late Dolores; also survived by nieces and nephews.  She was a member of the PA State, Allegheny County, Char Valley, and South Park Township Democratic Committees. She was a member of the South Park Women’s Club, PA State Association of Tax Collectors.  Joan was elected as Tax Collector of South Park Township. She participated in the Adopt a Highway Program.  She was instrumental in lobbying South Park elected officials to initiate community clean-up, which included removal of blighted buildings, cleanup of littered roadways, and restoration at the Alleghany County Fairgrounds. These restoration initiatives led to the creation of South Park Proud Volunteers. She endeavored these initiatives as she considered South Park Township a great place to live and raise children.  Family and friends will be received Sunday, March 8th from 6-8 PM and Monday, March 9th from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Paul Henney Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 5570 Library Rd., Bethel Park.  Mass of Catholic Burial will be offered on Tuesday, March 10th, 10 AM at St. Louise de Marillac Church, Upper St. Clair.
