Of Bethel Park; age 97; passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 14, 2023; born in Brooklyn, NY on February 6, 1926; beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Szejko; loving father of Joseph Szejko, Kathy(Sal) Calabrese, John(Karen) Szejko and Thomas Szejko; grandfather of Pete and Dan Calabrese, Ian(Nicole) and Evan Szejko; great grandfather of Vinny Calabrese; brother of Frances Iacona and the late Genevieve Misslbeck.  Joe was a WWII Army Infantry Veteran who received The Bronze Star for service in the European Theatre. He completed his degree in design engineering at Brooklyn Poly Technic Institute. In 1966 he and Liz moved to Bethel Park where he was employed at US Steel Corp. as a Mechanical Engineer for 33 years. He worked an additional 10 years as a consultant with Schneider Engineering from where he retired in 1993. In their younger years he and Liz enjoyed skiing, speed skating, boating, fishing, spending time at the beach.  Joe also enjoyed target shooting, archery and bowling. He found great pleasure in playing with his namesake Australian Shephard, Joejoe.  A private burial will take place at The National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory to Shriners Hospitals for Children,www.shrinerschildrens.org
