Karen Small Obituary

Karen M. Small

Karen was born on March 11, 1960 to Alfred and Mary Jane Marengo and she passed away on August 24, 2021.  She was the loving and cherished wife of Allen Small.  Karen grew up in Oakmont, PA with her brother, John (Julie) Marengo and younger sister, Kathy (Mark) Hixenbaugh.  Karen was very proud of and loved her two sons, Christopher (Amber) and Jeremy (Sarah) Campano.  She was also a loving Aunt to John Michael (Amanda) Marengo, Jessica (Devon) Marengo, Alex (Amorena) Poellnitz, Victoria (Cody) Partyka and Michael (Michele) Small.  She was a Great Aunt to Briella and Maisie Marengo and grandmother to Emerson Campano, Arlo Partyka and Daniel Small.

Karen and Allen traveled to North Carolina to spend time with their extended family and attend family reunions. Karen, Allen and their children enjoyed many vacations at the Outer Banks. Karen and Allen always had a house full of pets and she leaves behind her furry friends, Gracie, Bella, Timmy, Jackie and Jill.  They will all miss her love and the time she spent with them.

Karen was a dedicated nurse and worked at various hospitals including Shadyside and the VAMC.  She later received a master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh in Informatics and started working with companies to create and update hospital software.  Karen was a dedicated employee and a true friend to her many co-workers.

Karen was a talented quilter and enjoying gifting her beautiful quilts to friends and family.  Karen and Bucky traveled the country looking for the perfect fabric and attended many quilting retreats, Shop Hops and Expos, making countless friends along the way.

Karen was a kind, generous, courageous, and funny woman.  No matter what came her way, she fought through it to spend more time with those she loved.  Karen accepted her next journey and was going to give her Mummy and Nonnie great big hugs when she saw them again.  The family and friends Karen left behind are heartbroken, but when we do something nice for someone or see a beautiful sunflower, we will think of her.  Monetary donations, or handmade quilts can be sent to Karen’s favorite charity in her memory.  Please go to Quilts for Kids at http://www.quiltsforkids.org/donate.htm or via mail to: 494 Lincoln Highway, Fairless Hills, PA  19030.

Karen was taken away from us way to early, but she will always live in our memories and hearts.
