Lee McConnaughey MacManus passed away peacefully on Monday, December 22, 2025 at the age of 89. She was born to Blair and Eleanor McConnaughey in Cleveland, Ohio. Lee moved with her family to Pennsylvania as a child and graduated from the former Scott Township High School. She briefly attended Clarion and Indiana State Colleges, before seeking employment with Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh. She met her husband, James Robert MacManus (Jim) and they married in October 1963. Lee eventually became a stay at home mother to her two children. The family lived in Mississippi, New York and North Carolina, finally settling back in Bethel Park in 1976. After her children became older, Lee returned to work at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church as their office manager. She worked at Holy Cross from 1982 until she retired in 2002.
In addition to her employment, Lee was involved in Ruthfred Lutheran Church, including its women’s prayer circles and Craft & Sew Club. At Holy Cross, she was involved in the Ladies Philoptochos Society and the Spring and Fall Food Fairs. She was also a Cadette (Girl Scouts) troop leader, a member of the Green Thumbers Garden Club, and a local church office managers group.
In July 2022, Lee moved to Concordia of South Hills. Lee was blessed to spend much of her time there with her best friend of 70 years, Lucille Kubit, until she passed away in July.
Lee was preceded in death by her parents and her brother (Blair in 1961) and her husband, Jim in June 2022. She is survived by her daughter, Beth Ellis (John) and her son, Jim MacManus (Julie) and her granddaughters, Kara Ellis and Jillian MacManus. She is also survived by numerous cousins, as well as her “adopted” niece and nephews.
Visitation will take place at Paul Henney Cremation & Funeral Tributes, Bethel Park, from 10-12pm on January 10, 2026, where a Funeral Service will also be held directly following at 12pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Holy Cross Church’s Agape Fund or its Ladies Philoptochos Society or Ruthfred Lutheran Church’s Samaritan Ministry.
