Lucille Hume Obituary

Lucille Petruska Hume passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025.  She resided at Providence Point in Pittsburgh for the past eight years, following 48 cherished years in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania.

Lucille was born in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, into a second generation immigrant family, six years before the outbreak of Word War II.  She was raised in the small coal town of Beaver Meadows.  Possessed of a sharp mind and a love for learning, a standout student, Lucille graduated at the top of her high school class in Hazleton. Her talent for mathematics and attention to detail led her to work as a bookkeeper at various points in her life, where she brought the same precision and artistry that she displayed in her immaculate home and her passion for painting.

Above all, Lucille’s life revolved around her family. She lovingly raised six children, was a devoted grandmother to 17 and took immense joy in her eight great-grandchildren.

Her Catholic faith was her bedrock; prayer and Novenas were constants in her life, serving as sources of strength for herself and those she loved. Lucille’s unconditional love was felt deeply by all who knew her. She had an extraordinary ability to guide with wisdom and compassion, offering quiet support while allowing others to chart their own paths.

As one of six siblings, Lucille’s influence extended well beyond her immediate family. She enriched the lives of 23 nieces and nephews and countless friends. Family gatherings were vibrant, often including a mix of relatives and friends, reflecting her warmth and hospitality. Visiting Aunt Lucille was always a delight, as she brought humor, wisdom, and joy to every occasion.

Lucille is survived by her children, their spouses and partners: William & Patricia, David & Susan, Richard & Rachel, Mary Beth & Mark, Anthony & Mary Beth, and Catherine & Robert; her grandchildren: Kathryn, Michael, Lindsey, Megan, Richie, AJ, Matthew, Danielle, David, Connor, Nicole, Sarah, Aidan, Hannah, Jack, Will, and Ben; and her great-grandchildren: Hunter, Rylan, Felix, Lucy, Harper, Demian, Ella, and McKinley.

She is now reunited with her beloved husband of 70 years, David William, her daughter in law Leslie, along with her departed family and friends. Her spirit continues to live on in the hearts of all she touched.

A memorial Mass will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to The Parkinson’s Foundation of Western PA (www.PFWPA.org) in her honor.
