Marjorie E. (Pool) Sherwood, 88, of Bethel Park, beloved mother and grandmother, entered heaven into the arms of Jesus on Thursday, March 27, 2025.
Born on August 9, 1936 to Gilbert and Olive (Ullman) Pool, Marjorie was raised in New Matamoras, OH where her faith in God and love of music were cultivated. She was an accomplished pianist and played the trumpet in her high school band. After graduating from high school in 1954 and completing secretarial school in Marietta, OH, she began working at Mobay (Bayer) Chemical Corporation in New Martinsville, WV. It was there that she met Neil Sherwood, whom she married on May 19, 1957.
Marjorie and Neil welcomed two daughters, Susan and Julie, while living in Paden City, WV. In 1966, a job transfer brought the family to Pittsburgh, PA where they settled in Bethel Park to raise their children. Marjorie was a devoted mother who instilled her faith in Jesus and her love of music in her daughters. She was actively involved in their piano lessons, church activities, band events, and Girl Scouts, all while keeping them dressed to perfection with outfits she sewed by hand.
As her daughters grew older and the empty nest years approached, Marge returned to the workforce and began a successful second career in multimedia sales. Her work allowed her to travel across the country, something she greatly enjoyed. Myrtle Beach, SC was her favorite family vacation destination and she was an avid fan of Ohio State football and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Marge embraced her role as a grandmother with the same unconditional love, support, and dedication she had given her daughters. She cherished watching her four grandsons grow up and took great joy in watching their music performances, sporting events, and participating in other special occasions—creating a lifetime of treasured memories for them all.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Gilbert and Olive Pool, and her husband, Neil Sherwood. She is survived by her loving daughters Susan Martin of Broken Arrow, OK and Julie (Paul) Duda of Bethel Park as well as her four grandsons: Ryan (Jennifer) Martin of Mesa, AZ, Brandon Martin of Los Gatos, CA and their father Thomas Martin; Jared Duda of New York, NY and Joshua Duda of Pittsburgh, PA. Also surviving are Marjorie’s beloved brother Duane Pool of Beverly, OH and four nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Paul Henney Cremation & Funeral Tributes in Bethel Park on Thursday, April 3, 2025, from 2:00–4:00 PM and 6:00–8:00 PM. Funeral service will be held at New Day Assembly of God, 701 Circle Drive, Upper St. Clair, on Friday, April 4 at 11:00 AM, with final respects at the church prior to the service.
