Mary Grizella Butler Borza Stein
Passed away in her home in South Park, PA on May 6, 2021 with her family by her side. Mary Grizella had recently celebrated her 87th birthday. She was born to the late James and Myra Butler, at the former Magee Womens Hospital, in Pittsburgh, PA. Mary Grizella graduated from Duquesne Senior High School and became engaged to the late Elmer M. Borza at Kennywood Park on her graduation day. They were married in 1953 at Saints Peter & Paul Greek Catholic Church, Duquesne, PA. Mary Grizella and Elmer were married 28 years until his death in 1981. In 1990, Mary Grizella married Raymond (Sid) Stein at the Carmel Mission, Carmel, California. They were married 14 years until his death in 2004. Mary Grizella is survived by her five children, Mary Sue Chavis Kravec (Perry), Michael Jay (Marylin), John Michael (Katherine), Stephen Michael (Mary Catherine), and James Michael (Karen). She is survived by 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Butler. Mary Grizella was predeceased by her brothers William Butler and James Butler. Mary Grizella worked 30 years as a beautician and 33 years as a licensed practical nurse, she retired at the age of 80. She had a heart of compassion, especially shown in her volunteer work in the gift shop at Jefferson Hospital. She carried herself in a way that let others know she embraced life and would let nothing hold her back, whether it be the use of technology, the high standard she set for herself, or the advice she offered to her children throughout her life. Mary Grizella always had an active social life. She enjoyed Friday afternoon card gatherings with friends as well as monthly lunches with her retired nurse friends. She enjoyed playing golf in the women’s golf league at Butlers Golf Course and she also enjoyed the arts at Heinz Hall and the Benedum Center. She was the founding member of the Merry Widows Club as well as a member of the Red Hats Society. Mary Grizella loved to travel whether it was by bus, train, or plane. She traveled with family and friends around the globe and was on several cruises.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Paul Henney Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 5570 Library Road, Bethel Park, Pa where parting prayers will be conducted on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 9:00 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, May 14, 2021 at 9:30 in Saint Valentines Roman Catholic Church, Our Lady of Hope Parish, Bethel Park with the Reverend Michael Suslowicz officiating. A joint committal service will follow for her and her late husband, Elmer Borza in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA.
