Richard Allen “Dick” Vogele

 

Richard Allen “Dick” Vogele, 98, of Bethel Park, PA, passed away July 27, 2022 at Newhaven Court at Cleaview in Butler, PA.  He was born January 31, 1924 in Pittsburgh to his birthparents, Harold O. and Frances Aileen (Wolvin) Werner of Michigan.  He was adopted from the Pittsburgh Home For Babies and lovingly raised by Joshua and Mayme (Seger) Vogele of Ligonier.  He was graduated from Ligonier High School and Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics and attended Carnegie Tech.  He served in the US Navy during WWII as an instructor at the Naval Air Technical Training School near Memphis, TN.  After the war, he worked for Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven and then for 40 years for Cornwell Tool Company as a salesman and field manager.  He was a 50 year member and Past Master of Bethel Lodge #716 F & AM, a 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite, Principal Instructor for the School of Instruction and a member of the Syria Shrine.  He served as elder, deacon, and trustee of Brightwood Christian Church where he was a member for over 60 years.  He enjoyed a number of activities, including golf, flying, gardening, traveling, playing the organ and saxophone, but especially enjoyed sailing and was a member of the Moraine Sailing Club at Lake Arthur where he loved to race. He had a wonderful gift of being able to fix anything.  He had immense pride and joy in his grandsons and great granddaughters.  He made friends everywhere he went and they meant the world to him.

 

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara M. and William A. Obaker; his grandsons and their wives, William R. Obaker (Jolene) and C. Jordan Obaker (Meredith); 

his great granddaughters  D Ruth, Hattie, Vivienne, Eliza, and Willa; his sister, Ruth O’Hara; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 67 years, Beatrice T. Frye, his brother John “Jack” Vogele and his sister Jane Caldwell.

 

A very special thank you is extended to the exceptional staff of Newhaven Court at Clearview in Butler who lovingly cared for him.

 

Family and friends received Tuesday, August 2 from 9 – 11 AM at Paul Henney Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 5570 Library Rd, Bethel Park, PA 15102 where a Masonic Service will be held at 10:30 AM and funeral services will be held at 11 AM.

 

Interment will be at the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Laughlintown, PA .
