Samuel "Sam" Nicholson Obituary

Samuel James Nicholson was freed from his long battle with heart disease on May 28, 2022. Born July 27, 1993 with more hair than most people will have in a lifetime -he entered into a battle with viral myocarditis at 10 days old. He valiantly fought that off and became your typical toddler and young man and then survived the near fatal cardiac arrest at the age of 12 that led to his IED implantation.

Despite many twists and turns over the next years with his heart, he led a full life that included active participation in baseball and lacrosse leading to a sports management degree at Bowling Green University graduating in 2015. Upon graduation he secured a position as an equipment manager with the Syracuse crunch AHL hockey team affiliate and then moved back to Pittsburgh taking a job as a Fraud Analyst at PNC Bank.

Sam could talk you under the table on sports facts and data and any current events. He grew up in Christ United Methodist Church and actively participated in the youth groups and the mission trips. He was an avid snow skier and water skier but the greatest gift he gave to all of us was his love for family, friends and animals. He said on more than one occasion -I wish I was a dog -they have quite the life!!!

We have honored Sam’s wishes by choosing organ donation. We could hear him saying oh yeah for sure I don’t need it anymore, makes sense ——and that was the essence of Sam!!

He is survived by his parents Bing and Lynn, his sister Lauren, girlfriend Julie Martin, stepfather Steve Faulkner, maternal grandparents Marilyn Britton, Richard and Celeste Nalwasky, brother-in-law Ryan McAndrew, niece Stella McAndrew, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Sam was proceeded in death by his paternal grandparents Clyde, George and Sarah Jane and his Uncle John and Aunt Patty. Visitation hours will be at the Paul Henney Funeral Home Library Rd Bethel Park Wednesday June 1st 5PM - 8 PM. Service will be at Christ United Methodist Church 44 Highland Rd Bethel Park 10 AM Thursday June 2nd with a reception to follow immediately after.

Interment at Jefferson Memorial Park will be private.
