After a life well lived, Sherry Rhoads or just good old “Ga” went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
While we are sad for us, the joy she is experiencing in heaven makes our hearts happy. We can all just picture the smile on dad‘s face as he put mom in a bear hug and welcomed her to heaven.
Ga was born to Opal and Preston Cochran in Steubenville Ohio on February 20, 1943. She married the love of her life, her best friend, the late William Rhoads and they spent 58 years showing us what love was and together they were the absolutely the greatest parents we could have asked for.
The very proud mother of Jeff (Colleen) of Canonsburg, Jenny (Tom) of Moundsville WV, and John (Holly) of Waxhaw NC. The absolute joys of her life were her grandchildren: Grant, Chris, Drew, Emily, Andy, Kara, Leah, and Sofia. She was also preceded in Heaven by her Grandchildren Adam, Troy, Trent, and Camryn (we can only imagine those four running to the gates of Heaven to finally get to hug their Ga). Sister of Darla Varney and the late Preston Gary Cochran.
Sherry was many things: an amazing mother, grandmother, wife, and most of all a very strong Christian. Her love of Jesus drove all aspects of her life. She and Dad lived lives that reflected their strong beliefs, and they instilled that in each one of us. We know that through the gift of Salvation that death has no sting. We will all be together again in heaven.
She and Dad were season ticket holders to every event the grandkids were ever involved in hockey, baseball, soccer, racing, dancing… you name it. They rarely missed an activity. She would beam with such pride watching them.
When she wasn’t watching the grandchildren do their sports, she was sled riding, playing catch, wrestling them, you name it. Whatever they wanted to do, Ga was involved with it. She would let the grandkids cook with her and no matter how disgusting the crazy concoctions they would dream of making in her kitchen, she would always eat it and with a smile say, “it’s not that bad”. Thanks Ga, for being such a vital part of our children’s lives.
Ga taught us all about compassion, caring, and forgiveness. She didn’t have a mean bone in her body and could always find the good in everyone.
She loved animals and really lit up when dogs were involved. She loved her Saturday visits from Charlee. Somehow all our dogs knew to follow her around and that lunchmeat would “accidentally” fall out of the refrigerator directly into their mouths.
More than anything, Ga wanted to make heaven crowded. We ask for all who read this to please come to know Jesus and accept the free gift of salvation that He offers.
Friends and family will be received at Paul Henney Cremation & Funeral Tributes, Inc, on Thursday, October 30, from 4-7pm for visitation. A committal service will be held Friday, October 31, at 12pm at Forest Lawn Gardens. Please meet at the cemetery chapel.
