10.8.1933-3.23.2025
Shirley Lind, of Bethel Park, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed expectantly from earth to heaven on Sunday, March 23, 2025. She lived a rich and full 91 years of life. Shirley valued people and was rich in relationships, but nothing meant more to her than her beloved Lord, her family and any excuse to have a sweet treat.
Shirley was born in Pittsburgh to Elizabeth Soltez Brasso on October 8, 1933. Her family was completed with two younger sisters, Betty Ann Morningstar of Jefferson Hills and Dorothy Damico of West Mifflin. The sisters remained close friends all of their lives and everyone enjoyed hearing them recall memories with much laughter and affection. She was preceded in death by her loving mother and her husband of 54 years, Charles “Pat” Lind.
Shirley and Pat met at a Hazelwood trolley stop when they took the same trolley into downtown Pittsburgh each day. She fell in love, and God granted Shirley’s wish: they were married on May 3, 1958. They moved to Bethel Park in 1962 and had three children.
Shirley was a loving and devoted mother to Jennifer (Tom) Calano of Bethel Park, Tom (Laurie) Lind of Naples, FL, and Christine (Pat) Opferman of Jefferson Hills. Her love for her three children was only matched when she was blessed with grandchildren and then great-grandchildren. Her roles of grandma (Mimi) and great-grandma were her absolute favorites. She was grandmother to Sarah (Nathan) Rutman of Dormont, Kathryn (Mekael) Teshome of Bellevue, Rebekah Calano of Washington, DC, Thomas Calano (Mehammed Mack) of Los Angeles, CA, Amanda (Jaymes) St. Clair of Oklahoma City, OK, Mallory Opferman of Jefferson Hills, Jamie Opferman of Venetia, Nicholas Calano of Bethel Park, Gavin Lind of Naples, FL, and Drew Opferman of Jefferson Hills.
She cherished every baby and welcomed each lovingly into her family, especially each new great-grandchild: Sadie, Judah, Lily, Keevon, Demetrius, Mansour, and Deborah. She completed her life by joyfully meeting her youngest great-grandchild in her final hours.
In between time with family, Shirley spent her days painting, watching her favorite TV programs, sewing, reading her Bible or gardening. She was a master at keeping African violets blooming & enjoyed spending time on her patio listening to, watching, and feeding the birds. Her mornings always started with a “Mimi breakfast”, a phrase coined by her grandson Gavin. This breakfast consisted of a decaf hazelnut coffee and a sweet treat, usually a donut. As a Hungarian, she loved to learn about her heritage and cook traditional foods. She was known by many for her generosity and desire to bless others.
Friends are welcomed this Thursday, March 27th from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Paul Henney Funeral Home 5570 Library Road in Bethel Park, PA 15102 where services will be held on Friday, March 28 at 11am. Interment will follow at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery.
