Walter J. Till

Walter J. Till, 93, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023.

Walter was born on March 9, 1930, to the late Ernest and Elizabeth (Gruber) Till in New York City. Also preceding him in death is a brother, Ernest (surviving, Mary Louise Till and niece, Johna Till Johnson) Till.         

He was the devoted husband to the late Marjorie K. Till for sixty-five years; the loving father to Richard (Donna) Till, David Till, Daniel (the late Terri) Till, and Douglas Till; grandfather to Mike Till, Nick (Jamie) Till, Alexandra (Nick) Denillo, Amanda Till, and Joseph Mazzie-Till. Also surviving are step-grandchildren, Amanda, Courtney, and Sammi, and bonus grandchildren, Jonathan and Jaime; as well as five great grandchildren, Kellan Till, Azure Till, Dominick and Dante Denillo, and Lily Daubert.

He graduated from Murrell Dobbins Vocational-Technical School in Philadelphia. He attended The University of Pennsylvania on a full academic scholarship and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering.

Walter then went on to work for US Steel until he was drafted into the US Army, where he received a National Defense Service Medal. He returned to US Steel and during his tenure, he moved his family to Taiwan for three years to build China Steel. He and Marge also spent two and a half years working in the Philippines. He retired at age 58 after 35 years of employment.

He was a Brother of the Free & Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania, and a Brother of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite for 71 years.

He was also a Pittsburgh Syria Shriner.

Walter belonged to a golf and bowling league for retirees for many years. He enjoyed working around the yard and garden, as well as tinkering in his garage. He was very high tech, using his computer daily, and stayed current with technology up until his passing.

Ultimately, his wife Marge and family were the most important things in his life. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Family and Friends will be received on Thursday, March 30, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., at Paul Henney Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 5570 Library Road, Bethel Park. A funeral service will be offered on Friday, March 31, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at John McMillan Presbyterian Church, 875 Clifton Road, Bethel Park, with guests arriving at 10:30 a.m.

Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park.
