William Ward Obituary

Age 96, of Bonita Springs, Florida, and formerly of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, William passed away on February 15, 2026. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Florence M. Ward, and his sister, Joan Gloekler. He is survived by his children Carol (Art) Bounamano, Joanne (John) Lagola, Cynthia (Paul) Baecher, William (Carol) Ward, and Thomas (Mary) Ward; 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.  Bill was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Duquesne University, and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.  He spent 27 years with Westinghouse Credit Corporation, where he rose to Vice President of Real Estate and Commercial Lending and also served as President of Treasure Lake Resorts. In 1980 he founded Ward Financial Company, which continues today. Bill and Florence were longtime “snowbirds,” spending many happy years in Longboat Key, Florida and their beloved Pittsburgh.  He was a lifelong, passionate fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates.  He and Florence were Steeler season ticket holders and attended the game of the famed Immaculate Reception.  Through both work and leisure, Bill traveled extensively, but most of the family’s favorite vacation memories were made in Stone Harbor, New Jersey.  He was the central character in some great golf stories and, at age 74, completed a 5K for prostate cancer awareness. At his senior residence he remained active, enjoying bocce, bean-bag baseball, Wii Bowling, shuffleboard, and bridge, and he also sang in the choir.  As an avid reader, he helped reorganize the library at his senior residence.  Throughout his life he quietly supported many charitable causes. Friends and family will be received on Friday, February 27, from 4:00–8:00 p.m. at Paul Henney Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 5570 Library Road, Bethel Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 28, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Valentine Church, Bethel Park, where he and his family were longtime members. Interment will follow at St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the National Breast Cancer Foundation www.nationalbreastcancer.org.

Bill was reunited with Florence and will be remembered most for his steady presence, quiet generosity, and deep love for his family.
