We consider the passing of an individual a natural experience of being, of having received the gift of life; an event marking the end of one's adventure of life.
Not surprisingly, other cultures have different ideas.
A concept providing me with a measure of consolation incorporates three stages of death.
First Stage
Dead, but personally known by living individuals.
Second Stage
Dead, but still remembered by living individuals.
Final Stage
Dead and forgotten.
I find comfort and solace with the idea that someone I have known still lives on in my memory. After I die, this person lives in the memories of those who, never having met them, still remember them. Only when all of the people who remember the deceased are gone, does that individual pass into complete death.
Carole, my cousin:
You will remain in my memory as long as it shall function.
God speed!
