I have a remote connection to your family and wanted to reach out to you. My condolences to your family on your loss firstly as I was searching for your uncle Michael Garbus whom was a 2nd marine div in WW11 and found this connection.
I am the daughter of Shirley Morley whom met Michael and dated him during WW11 when he was in New Zealand. My mother is about to turn 90 years old and I have over the years tried to find history of Michael after the war to share with her. She still has some of his drawings in an autograph book that I loved to view as a child.
I married a US Navy man in NZ in 1972 and have since been in the USA. My husband passed away unexpectedly in Dec 2013. I have 2 wonderful children and grandchildren and live in Vancouver, WA.
I recall as a young girl, my grandmother (Shirley's mother) telling me all about how wonderful Michael was and how she corresponded with his sister Anna, hence I think you are the family she and my mother and grandmother spoke of.
It would be wonderful to share some memories of Michael and his life after WW11 to my mother for her 90th BD Sept 9, 2015. She is in reasonable health, I am going to take my 30 and 35 year old children with me to New Zealand to see her in Sept.
I apologize if this is perhaps an invasion of your privacy and guestbook use at your time of loss and hope that the connection may be of some family comfort to you all perhaps.

Mike Garbus, the World War II Marine, was my Dad. He spoke of R&R in New Zealand, and I have a picture of him walking the streets of a city there.

Hi Jenny,
I am the oldest daughter of George Garbus. Michael Garbus was my Father's older brother. You've found the right family! Unfortunately, I saw my Uncle Mike when I was a small child only a few times at my Grandmother's house, so I don't know much about him. He married a woman named Mary and had two children, Michael and Debbie. He lived in Chicago while we lived in Pittsburgh our whole lives. I think my Uncle Mike passed away in the 1980's. I don't know where his children are now, or if his wife is still alive. I think it's so romantic to hear about your Mother and her relationship with my Uncle Mike during the war. My father was a very good artist, in fact he was a professional commercial artist. I remember him telling me how good an artist his brother Mike was too. It's so nice that you will see your Mother for her 90th birthday in New Zealand. I really would like you to have something to share with her about my Uncle Mike, so I'm giving you the phone number of my Aunt Mary, my Father's only surviving sibling. Unfortunately, we lost my Aunt Anna about thirteen years ago. You can call my Aunt Mary and Uncle Art (her husband) to hear more details about my Uncle Mike's life. Her number is (412)881-7730. I hope they will be helpful to you. I want your Mother to know as much as possible about my Uncle Mike for her birthday. I wish you and your family all the best! Thank you for your condolence message and letting us know this very interesting story about my Uncle Mike and your mother. Please feel free to contact me in the future to let me know all about your Mother's 90th Birthday Celebration and if you were able to find out more information about my uncle. Take care!
All the best,

Diane Lally
